Sunday morning

Good morning all.  Yesterday saw everything put back to its default position.  The Poop is fixed and now I must replace the water that was lost but at least the pumps are all running well.  The car has new brake pads so that is a happy bunny. The coffee machine demanded a descale and clean so that has been done, the over flowing bins have been emptied and the garden cleared of dogs little messages.  Lots of little jobs got done that have been hanging around and I must say I feel much happier once these things are taken care of.  It is a nice feeling to clear the decks of those niggling little jobs that inhabit the back of your mind.  James and I split the jobs between us which halved the work.  Anyone who has not been following this saga will be thrown by the poop comments.
I had a lovely chat with my friends in France and found that she has had a really bad time with her health since the winter and now has a black and blue face following some dental work.  On the positive side she…

Saturday morning

Good morning all, it is only just light and I have been awake since 3am. What a pain! thank goodness I don't have to go to work as I will be a dead duck by lunch time.  It is cold still and we are still in the Siberian grip.  Oh how I look forward to the day I can fling the door open and enjoy the early morning suns warmth.  But that is the joy of the seasons always looking forward to the next bit.
Joy you don't know what you have done with your typo, the pond is now called the poop which suits it so much better.  Today the man is due to come and mend his trashing of the poop so let's hope he does a decent job of it.  The car is going in for its brake pads so everything should be up and running again by tomorrow.  I'm not quite sure what happened to me yesterday but I suddenly wanted to make a victoria sponge.  Why, I don't like baking and don't like eating the finished product.  I did have a slice and found it too sweet and very eggy, yuk.  What possessed m…

Friday morning

Good morning all here is the the weather forecast for our corner.  It is sunny with light clouds but still the temperatures are down in single figures.  Nice to look at from the warmth of the house.  The garden is looking good with lots of colour bursting through but it is still too cold to sit out with my morning cup of coffee.  We haven't had any significant rain for a while and the ground is very dry so a good down pour would be a bonus.  Perhaps I should hang out a big load of washing which should provoke the rain gods.
Yesterday went largely according to plan the car is booked in for Saturday to have it pads done but apparently there is still quite a bit of pad left so there is no real rush and the warning light comes on rather early to give you a chance to get it fixed.  However, I find it disconcerting driving with warning lights on.  Perhaps this is just me as I have, in the past, had the oil light come on which basically told me the sump had emptied the entire contents o…

Thursday morning

Good morning all very late this morning the night from hell is over.  I am sleeping in very short bursts at the moment which is not good but I am not getting up very early I am going back to sleep and persevering.  Nails are done and painted blood red this time.  I have gone for a dark red with a considerable amount of blue in it as I tend to wear a lot of navy so it goes nicely.  I must say I do enjoy the pampering of having my nails done.  On the way home I knew I needed diesel and some baked beans so I stopped at a garage and got completely distracted as there were two approximately 10year old girls who had decided to ride their horses through the Mcdonald's drive through.  The horses were kicking up merry hell as presumably they didn't want a burger and were not enjoying being jammed in a traffic queue.  I don't think the girls realised just what trouble they could get into if one of the horses had kicked out the front of someones car.  The sensible thing would have b…

Wednesday morning

Good morning all we are at 4ºC this morning but at least we don't have frost or snow.  Dentist went well yesterday nothing needed doing except the usual sand blasting clean.  I hate going to the dentist but at least I have not had to have anything done for years.  I hope my largely sugar free diet is some help.  This is not a diet per se but just my dislike of sweet things in general.
I made a big pot of soup yesterday with a butternut squash some carrots and some leeks.  It was pretty bland so I added some fresh thyme and a grating of lemon zest which made all the difference.  Instead of bread with the soup we had onion bhajis lovely combination.  I have about two bowls worth left so I think I will put it in the freezer as we are three for lunch.
Today I am having my nails done and they really need it.  It is amazing how fast they grow, it is not something you usually notice.  Next it will be the hair which is getting to the shaggy pony stage but I am trying to get my timing…

Tuesday morning

Good morning all in a bit of a rush this morning as I have a dental appointment at 10.40 and have to drive all the way over to Maidstone.  It is perishingly cold again this morning with the deceptive sunshine making it look as if it is warm outside. However my thermometer is reading 6ºC and that is against the house wall and in the sun.  The central heating has kicked into life as that is on a thermostat which knows the outside temperature.  Therefore I am dressed for the arctic but at least I am not in my dressing gown freezing slowly.
I had a lovely morning yesterday with Ellie and she is looking fit and well after her short break.  She brought her lovely standard poodle  pup [Benjy] to visit as he gets on famously with my dogs.  The dogs had not seen each other for a while and went mad cavorting and chasing each other round and round the dining table then in and out of the garden finally collapsing exhausted with a dental chew each. Benjy thinks my dogs have magical powers as they…

Monday Morning

Good morning all well it might be chilly but at least the sun is shining today.  At last the world has changed from black and white to colour.  There are fresh green leaves and things bursting into flower wherever you look.  My garden has lots of bluebells which are actually quite a nuisance but are impossible to get rid of so I have given up trying and just let them do their own thing.  After all the definition of a weed is a plant in the wrong place!!!! Anyway the bees like them and also the dandelions which are proliferating. Perhaps it is time to stop fighting nature and let it do its own thing just keep the garden tidy and let the plants that want to grow get on with it.  I have real problems with ivy coming over from next door which tends to smother lots of plants so that does get a good haircut from time to time.  The front of the house looks pretty dreadful as we cut the trachelospermum off at the root so the front of the house is now covered in dead leaves but we will soon b…

Good morning and happy Saint George's day.  I only know it is our national saints day because google told me so.  I always think it is strange that it is not a day of celebration like St Patrick's day. Are there any traditional foods associate with today?  None that I know of, there is no st georges cake or pudding to my knowledge, no parties or get togethers it is just another day.  It is not even a bank holiday.  We must be one of the very few nations not to celebrate our national day.  Is it just our typical understated attitude? Perhaps we should start something!!!  Suggestions for a celebratory feast how about: - roast beef and yorkshire pudding followed by rhubarb crumble and custard you can't get more English than that.  We could celebrate our island nation with fish and chips and mushy peas. Any ideas? No I am not taking up morris dancing!!!!
That said it is a pretty dull day here still very chilly in single figures.  We had a splash of rain yesterday but nowhere …

Saturday morning

Good morning all well I am up at a reasonable time today having done a very passable impression of a sloth yesterday.  I am hoping that the pond debacle is now under control as I have the information necessary to contact the guy and organise for him to repair the damage.  Much diplomacy was needed so I am glad I gave myself 24 hours to calm down rather than go at it like a bull at a gate seething with anger.  I am not nice people when I am angry and definitely best avoided.  I don't like confrontation but sometimes it is necessary.  The thing I really hate is hypocrisy you know the sort of people who are all smiles to your face then stab you in the back the minute your back is turned. When I worked at the Brook hospital in Woolwich I watched as anyone on holiday was pilloried and returned to the silent treatment.  In my own special way I returned from holiday with a large jar of hand cream on to which I had taped a label saying "for stab wounds in the back" which I plac…

Friday Morning

Sorry to be so late it is  still just morning but following a rather grotty night I fell dead to the world at about 6am.  I have had a chat with the neighbours about the pond debacle last night and apparently the guy who took the fish is a relative.  They are very happy to deal with him as he has caused them multiple problems too.  He has just come to the door and left his card so I can speak with him later when my head is together and I am dressed.  What a rude awakening!!!!  Anyway it is now under control.
Sandy and I had lunch at the all you can eat chinese and I think I rather overdid it hence the grotty night. A self inflicted injury me thinks!!
Thank you all for your comments I find it hard to believe 6 months have passed time flies by so quickly and I have had other things to think about with both boys still at home.  James is very up and down which has kept me on my toes. My trips to Italy have also been time and mind consuming.  I can only hope that all goes well with the …

Thursday Morning

Good morning all it is dull outside this morning and still freezing cold isn't it time we had a bit of wind from the sahara to warm us up a bit?

I got all my chores done yesterday including planting out some basil ready for all the tomato salads we will be eating once the weather warms up a bit.  At the moment it feels much more like stew weather than salad.  Sadly I will be back from abroad for the general election and I have no idea what or who to vote for.  Which bunch of liars do I go for and does it actually matter? At the moment I feel like just staying out of it.  I am finding it really hard to come to grips with details and really can't be bothered to investigate enough to have a real handle on what is going on.  The only thing that is for certain is I wont be voting in the twerp we currently have.  Is this just my age speaking - I have lived under numerous governments and none of them have actually done what they said they would so what now?  Each one spends their tim…

Wednesday Morning

Good morning all it is another very chilly [6ºC] morning with the sun shining brightly it looks like a lovely day until you open the door and realise it is perishingly cold.  James and I had a good run up to London yesterday and a slow but reasonable journey home in rush hour.  He was pretty shattered but was still up at 3am and is now fast asleep where I will leave him.  Brain scrambling sessions leave him worn out but at least all the tick boxes have been dealt with and hopefully this is the last time he is going to be made to relive his nightmares and he will be allowed to put it behind him as best he can.  The lady with whom he spoke was surprised that he is receiving no help at all.  I did to psychiatric secondments in my training and with hand on heart I can honestly say I have never worked with a group of such lazy uncaring people in my life.  I hope my experience is not typical but I am not surprised by how James has been treated.  Anyway I am here to pick up the pieces and p…

Tuesday morning

Good morning all - I have just checked the news first today in case we are already at war with north korea - not yet but Trump is stirring the pot.  I sincerely hope that London evacuates for his state visit I think the man is a megalomaniac and seems to think the world is his toy.  Anyway enough political chat I hate politics both with a small p and a capital P it just strikes me as such a dirty business. My favourite political motto is "don't believe it until it has been officially denied". Watching the news scares and depresses me so I avoid it where possible.
The sun is shining and Denny is due any minute both the boys are sound asleep and that is a miracle for James as he is due for his appointment in London this evening.  I asked him if he felt the need for company and he has asked me to go with him for moral support which of course as his mother I am happy to do.  I am even happier that he feels able to ask for that support. Asking for help is a strength not a we…

Monday morning

Good morning all well it is a bank holiday so the weather is grotty very overcast and threatening rain. I did manage to get one load of laundry dry on the line before it rained yesterday and the rest of my day was spent making the traditional sunday lunch.  I now have masses of left over roast lamb so here comes shepherds pies and scotch broth not to mention cold meat and salad.  The leg of lamb was expensive but you pay for quality and as it turns out I am going to make so many meals out of it that it is going to turn out to be cheap in the end.
The less said about the pond the better, suffice to say I am well and truly peed off about it.  I hope the guy who came to collect the fish will come back for the rest and put things back as he found them.  At the moment all the filters and pumps are switched off and 6 inches of water has been pumped out which will take a day to refill.  It is a big pond!!!! Now that the massive fish are gone I hope the water will stay clean longer and it …

Sunday morning

Good morning all well yesterday started out looking very miserable but soon brightened up we are however forecast rain for the next couple of days.  It matters not for me but I do feel sorry for those who have just got a little time off work.  My garden is a dry as a biscuit so a little rain will be most welcome.

Now this should give you all a good laugh after all the fuss I made over doing the pond pumps the guy who offered to take the large fish for his koi pond came to collect and stirred up the pond and buggered up the pumps and filters leaving the water looking like brown windsor soup. He managed to catch all koi but one of the orf escaped him so I hope he is going to come back and finish the job because at the moment it is a complete mess.  I still have millions of goldfish who breed like it was going out of fashion but without the big fish it should be easier to keep the water clean.  Anyway when I saw what he had done I had two choices sit down and cry or laugh - I chose to l…

Saturday morning

Good morning all pretty dull and miserable outside today but the garden could you a drink so if it rains I will not mind.  Yesterday went according to plan Shiona arrived bright and early with her two dogs.  Sadly her boy dog always has a go at Tubby who quite naturally retaliates so we start with a dog discussion which of course sounds terrible.  This is the sort of thing people mistake for a fight which it is not - have you ever heard a dog whisper? they shout.  Anyway we pushed off to Macknades which was bursting at the seams when we arrived.  We decided to lunch first as shopping on an empty stomach equals huge amounts purchased.  We had an interesting mixture of food I had gazpacho soup and bread and butter followed by scrambled eggs on toast and a large cappuccino, Shiona had mushrooms in a cream sauce on sourdough and a side order of crushed butter beans with lemon and mint and a bottle of beer.  The quantities were very generous and Shiona took some of bean dish home - the to…

Good morning all and another chilly one single figures on the thermometer.  Just in case you missed my comment yesterday THE PUMPS ARE DONE.  I rang Shiona and was moaning about it, well it was moanday thursday, so she said she would come over today and beat me with a stick.  Just the threat was sufficient I went straight out and did them.  I promised her a good lunch for her efforts so we are going to go to Macknade's as they are open and we will both enjoy a lunch and shopping trip combined.  I must say I have not lunched there before but if their breakfast is anything to go by then it will be a lovely lunch.  I am short of meat and some veg not mention pasta and a few other odds and ends so this will kill many birds with one stone.  She can tell me all about her cruise to india and I can fill her in on my week in Italy.
I was fiddling with some photos yesterday and found this one of my sisters temporary accommodation, not exactly a tent or nissen hut but still difficult for …

Thursday morning

Good morning all today looks like it is going to be a good one the skys are clear and the sun it doing its best.  Yesterday saw Dan off to have his hair done and a splendid job they have done.  He looks and smells delicious of course Tubby wasn't going to be left out of the photographic session.

He does look a bit strange to me now he is minus his beard moustache and eyebrows and I don't think he would win any prizes in the show ring but now that swimming season is in full swing it is much easier to handle his coat.
I had a lovely morning I went to visit my japanese friend who is having trouble with the foxes and her vegetable patch.  Sadly the obvious answer of 'silent roar' which is lion dung is not for her as she has a cattery and her charges would be very upset.  So instead she force fed me the most wonderful dark belgian chocolates to have with my cappuccino coffee.  Now you understand I only ate them out of politeness!!!!!  however that took care of lunch.  Then …

Wednesday morning

Good morning all.  If GCHQ the CIA, MOSSAD and the KGB are listening in they will be delighted to know that I have taken up money laundering.  It is dead easy just don't empty your pockets and hey presto laundered money.  Yesterday I washed 6 Euros and I have been known to launder the odd £5 note.
The weather was so glorious that the washing machine was in action the whole day and I still have about three loads to go.  Did I do the pond pumps? no of course not, I managed to find other jobs which were much more important - one day I will realise I should just get on and do the job instead of procrastinating and finding some sort of excuse to get out of jobs I hate - I am just putting off the evil hour and will have to do them anyway.  Today might be the day but the priority is shopping as we are an almost food free zone.  So item one is to write a shopping list which I can then leave on the kitchen table as per usual.  Then I can shop leaving my shopping bags in the car, another …

Tuesday morning

Good morning all and it is a glorious morning the sun is shining and the temperature is perfect.  In my absence the flowering cherry has burst forth and the garden is looking much more as it should. The roses I put in last year have made some growth and need to be tied into the trellis and will eventually make a wall of colour in salmon pink.  Of course they are not yet in flower the first to make flowers is the canary bird rose which hangs over the pond.  Speaking of the pond today I am going to have to do my most hated job and clean the pond pumps which are clogged up with crud and it will soon be time to start feeding the fish.  My week away has allowed me to see things anew almost like when you clean your glasses and suddenly you can see properly.
It is interesting how the hour change closely followed by another hour change for the continent and then back again has scrambled my brains I have no idea what the time is or even what day it is. Thank goodness I write this garbage or I…

Monday Morning

Good morning all.  Well here I am back in the UK having slept like the dead last night and this morning I feel as if I have been run over by a steam roller.  I feel like the advert for the old farts who have had a family holiday so now they need a holiday.
Let's start at the beginning I left via stansted airport, which if you have ever used it you will know that there are miles to walk to get from A to B.  I got to the first escalator and the wheel of my bag jammed in the side track and threw me down backwards breaking off the carrying handle. Fortunately I landed on a well padded Italian lady who I then had to sit next to on the plane for two hours.  I was shaken but not stirred and people retrieved my possessions which had gone far and wide.  This struck me as a pretty poor omen however it was the only hiccup.  I had hired a fiat 500 automatic and had a friend of Carol, my sister, to follow back to her establishment.  It was pitch dark so I really had to concentrate on follow…

Monday morning

Good morning all - well I am packed all phones and iPads charged and ready to go now all I have to do is shower and make myself look respectable then WAIT AND WAIT  until it is time to set off.  My handbag has been emptied of lethal weapons!!! the wallet filled with Euros and every card I think I might need.  I have down loaded an audiobook to keep me occupied while I do the waiting and once at the airport I can waste time in all the shops, read all the books in WHSmiths test all the perfumes etc. and end up smelling like a tart's boudoir.  If all goes according to plan I will be waking up in Italy tomorrow morning.  I am going to have a break from blogging so expect me off the wires for a week. I will then write a novel to fill you in on all the details.  I am not taking my camera so it will be photos from the iphone.
You would have laughed yesterday as I packed a couple of rawhide chews for Carol's dogs.  Dan and Tubby disapproved strongly; despite the fact that they too …

Sunday morning

Good morning all and yes it is a Sun day at last we have emerged from our grey blanket of cloud.  I think I am all ready to go all the purchases have been made, now all I have to do is fit them into the cabin bag.  I have asked James to take me up to Stansted after lunch even though I don't fly out until 6pm I will be happier pacing the floor in the airport rather than wearing out my carpet at home.  I am the worlds worst person when it comes to waiting I have not one jot of patience.  I have all the patience to do fiddly little jobs or intricate crochet etc but when it come to waiting for people to arrive or waiting to go somewhere I am like a cat on a hot tin roof.  Hence I prefer to drive where I have control of the situation.  Does this make me a control freak?
I think I may have insulted my new relative but stating I thought his boat was probably 28-30 foot he very quickly put me right it is 51 foot.  Not being a boat person I had no idea so I hope I am forgiven for my faux …

Saturday Morning

Good morning all dull and dank here under a blanket of cloud.  I had a lovely breakfast yesterday with my friends and purchased some really good quality cheddar and some bacon which has been cured in guinness and black treacle which should be a novelty.  Today I have my final errands to run dog chews and Euros so a trip to Tesco is in order.  Once that is done I can try putting a container worth of stuff into a cabin bag.  I really am not a good packer but hopefully I have the essentials and as I am going to a home not a hotel there is lots of stuff I don't need to take. Then I need to empty out my handbag and make sure I don't have too many lethal instruments in it.  The last thing I need is a battle with security.
I have asked James to drop me at Stansted good and early so he can get home home before the rush hour traffic.  I have no problems kicking around the airport until I fly out.  I would only be pacing like a caged tiger at home.  The roads are so unpredictable tha…
