Friday morning

We set off fairly early yesterday morning and made our way to Thurrock and the Lakeside shopping centre.  It was Ikea that was our target and their very superior candles.  Needless to say we did not manage to get out without some other purchases.. Shiona restocked her candles and I bought a couple of nice bath mats, a griddle pan and some clothes pegs.  James accompanied us and it was lovely to have someone to load the car then we made our way back across the river and on to Bluewater where we headed straight for Wagamama for lunch.
It was all very nice and filled to the gunwales with seafood soup we then headed to Molton and Brown for our complimentary hand massage.  We came out smelling delicious but without any purchases as the products are so expensive and we neither of us use cosmetics.  We were very strong willed and kept out of Lakeland and the Apple store and marched very quickly through John Lewis.  Once home we unloaded our purchases and reloaded the car with dogs who we took for a good run round the rugby field.  It is interesting to watch the behaviour the terriers all stick together and play terrier games of chase and stick shaking.  Basso on the other hand does his own thing. He returns occasionally to see what the terriers are up to but generally looks pityingly at them and wanders off.
For supper last night we had Lepre al Barolo or Hare in red wine which was delicious.  I had made it some time ago and hidden it in the freezer.  As usual we used mashed swede to sop up the gravy.
Today is a quiet day of rest with the exception of an outing with James friend who would like a foraging trip and some guidance on what to pick.  It is not the best season for foraging but the sea beat is very nice at the moment so we will gather a bag of that.  There may be some samphire if the tide is out and there is always plenty of sea purslane.  The berries are down to hips and haws and rowan berries all of which require considerable work before being edible.  I have neglected my chores for a few days so I will need to catch up with the ironing and the chickens will need to be cleaned out and given fresh bedding.  Then I need to think what to eat and also what to prepare for tomorrows hunting trip.  On Sunday we have an invitation to lunch at Shiona's where James carpentry skills are required to build kitchens for the amateur dramatic club who are putting on an Alan Ayckbourn play.
The scarf situation progresses and I have now only got three more to knit.  I am trying to get one done each day which should get them finished by early next week.
Have a good week end and enjoy this mild weather while it lasts.
